Theory of the Worksheet (It does this FOR YOU, but it’s good for you to UNDERSTAND IT)

1. Story Concept & Premise (~500–1,000 words)

• Genre and subgenre identification
• Core premise and hook
• North-Star statement (tone, scope, medium)[1]
• Logline and summary pitch
• Target word count and chapter count
• Themes (primary and secondary)

This is the compass. Everything else flows from here.

2. Main Characters & Operating Systems (~1,000–2,000 words)

The NPE Character Operating System for each protagonist:[2]

• Core Wound, Mask, Want, Need, Fear
• Decision Heuristics and Stress Response
• Contradiction Pattern (their flaw loop)
• Character arc (where they start → where they end)
• Voice and POV notes
